Aeroflot’s flight will not show up on online travel agencies or other third-party sites
Sabre rival Amadeus IT Group also suspended Aeroflot fares from its platforms
On Thursday, Sabre Corp. (NYSE:
SABR) said it suspended its global distribution agreement with Russian carrier
Aeroflot after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The airline software giant provides
ticket distribution and reservation services for carriers worldwide.
With the suspension of agreement
with the Russian carrier, Aeroflot’s flight would not show up on online travel
agencies or other third-party sites.
“We will not sign any new contracts
in Russia and we continue to evaluate our existing portfolio of work in Russia
in parallel,” the company said in a statement.
Potential impact
“At the same time, we continue to
assess and evaluate the potential impact of international sanctions imposed on
Russia and any counter-measures by Russia.”
Sabre rival Amadeus IT Group also
suspended Aeroflot fares from its platforms.
Last week, Delta Air Lines (NYSE:
DAL) also said it is cutting ties with Russian carrier Aeroflot amid
Russia-Ukraine crisis. The airlines had a partnership allowing customers to
book seats on each other’s flights.
Aerospace manufacturers including
Boeing and General Electric have also suspended parts distribution agreements
with Russia. The U.S. and Europe have suspended Russia’s access to their
airspace.
'Increasing concern'
“Sabre has been monitoring the
evolving situation in Ukraine with increasing concern,” Sean Menke, Sabre’s
CEO, said in a statement.
“We are taking a stand against this
military conflict. We are complying, and will continue to comply, with
sanctions imposed against Russia.”
“The Company will continue to
monitor the ongoing situation and will evaluate whether additional actions
would be appropriate, taking into account legal considerations and any
countermeasures that could be implemented in response,” Sabre said.
