Heineken withdraws from Russia in aftermath of Ukraine war
The brewing giant assures that 1,800 employees' will be paid until the end of 2022
Dutch brewer will not accept any net financial benefits or profit from our business in Russia
Heineken,Inc.( HEIA) the Dutch brewing company announced its exit from Russia on Monday, after earlier ceasing new investments and exports to Russia amid Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
“Following the previously announced strategic review of our operations, we have concluded that HEINEKEN’s ownership of the business in Russia is no longer sustainable nor viable in the current environment. As a result, we have decided to leave Russia,” the brewing giant said in a statement.
The company aim for a smooth transition of the firm to a new owner while adhering to all international and local rules and ensures the continuous safety and well-being of our employees and limiting the possibility of nationalization.
“We guarantee the salaries of our 1,800 employees will be paid to the end of 2022 and will do our utmost to safeguard their future employment,” the company said.
Russia and Ukraine will resume face-to-face peace talks on Monday amid the tragic situation in the besieged city of Mariupol.
