Ukraine authorities said around 300 people were killed on the outskirts of Kyiv during the Russian army's month-long invasion.
Ukraine has accused Russia of deaths in towns surrounding Kyiv, including Bucha, Irpin, and Hostomel, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy labeling Russian soldiers as Murderers, looters, butchers who are conducting "genocide" in his nation.
During an interview with CBS News' "Face the Nation," the Ukrainian president told Margaret Brennan when asked if Russia is carrying out genocide in Ukraine.
"Indeed, this is genocide," Zelenskyy said. "The elimination of the whole nation and the people. We are the citizens of Ukraine we have over 100 nationalities. This is about the destruction and extermination of all these nationalities."
"We are the citizens of Ukraine, and we don't want to be subdued to the policies of the Russian Federation, and this is the reason we are being destroyed and eliminated," Zelenskyy said.
"This is happening in the Europe of the 21st century, so this is the torture of the whole nation."
Meanwhile, Russia denied the allegations. The Russian Defense Ministry said that all photographs showing Russian forces' crimes in Bucha are another provocation since all Russian units departed from the town as early as March 30.
