Police fined UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Finance Minister Rishi Sunak for breaching Covid-19 lockdown rules.
The police fined Johnson in relation to a gathering at 10 Downing Street in June 2020 when the country had ordered people to avoid socializing.
“In all frankness at that time, it did not occur to me that this might have been a breach of the rules,” Mr. Johnson said after being fined. “But the police have found otherwise and I fully respect the outcome of their investigation.”
Johnson becomes the first sitting prime minister to have been found breaking the law, reported CNBC.

Sunak, who was present in the gathering, also apologized for breaching the lockdown rules.
The Metropolitan police said they had so far issued 50 fines about parties on government property.
Opposition leaders have asked Johnson and Sunak to resign for breaking the law. Opposition Labour leader Keir Starmer said that they “have broken the law and repeatedly lied to the British public,” and asked them to resign.
Carrie Johnson, the prime minister’s wife, has also been notified that she will also receive a fine.
