Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned the world that Russian President Vladimir Putin may use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
In an interview on CNN, when asked if he was concerned that Putin may deploy a tactical nuclear bomb on Ukraine, Zelenskyy said, "...all of the countries have to be worried because it can be not real information, but it can be the truth."
"Chemical weapons, they should do it, they could do it, for them the life of the people, nothing. That's why," Zelenskyy said in an interview. "We should think not to be afraid, not be afraid but be ready. But that is not a question for Ukraine, not only for Ukraine but for all the world, I think."
Putin does not respect the lives of Ukrainian civilians, according to Zelenskyy, thus Moscow could simply employ nuclear or chemical weapons.
US officials have also been warning that if Putin is forced into a position, he may use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
CIA Director William Burns said Thursday that the US cannot "take lightly" the potential that Russia may deploy tactical nuclear weapons.
"Given the potential desperation of President Putin and the Russian leadership, given the setbacks that they've faced so far militarily, none of us can take lightly the threat posed by a potential resort to tactical nuclear weapons or low-yield nuclear weapons," Burns said.
