• More than 5 million people flee as refugees from the borders in the last two months
The UN's refugee agency (UNHCR), says it now expects 8.3 million people to depart Ukraine this year, up from its previous estimate.
In the last two months after Russia started its full-fledged invasion on February 24, the war has dislocated more than 12.7 million people, with more than 5 million fleeing as refugees across borders and 7.7 million still displaced within the nation, UNHCR spokeswoman Shabia Mantoo said.
Almost 13 million additional people are expected to be trapped in impacted areas or prevented from leaving owing to security concerns.
The UN refugee agency, which had predicted that up to four million people would migrate this year, now estimates that $1.85 billion will be required to help refugees in neighboring countries.
“The scale of the crisis, definitely the rapidity of people fleeing, we have not seen in recent times,” Mantoo told the news briefing.
Meanwhile, Syria continues to be the world's largest current refugee catastrophe, with 6.8 million people fleeing to different nations.
