Electric carmaker will fix the issue with OTA updates
Tesla has issued 10 recalls in 2022, covering 2.1 million vehicles, the second-highest number of cars behind Ford
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is recalling more than 48,000 Model 3 Performance cars in the United States. This is because they may fail to display the speed on the speedometer while in “Track Mode.”
The recall covers 48,184 vehicles from 2018 through 2022 model years.
The electric carmaker will perform an over-the-air software update to address the issue, which sprung up due to a firmware update released in December.
The update unintentionally removed the speed unit from the user interface, Tesla said on Friday.
“Lack of a speed unit when using Track Mode may not adequately inform the driver of vehicle speed, which may increase the risk of a collision,” the company said in its report to NHTSA.
“Tesla is not aware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition.”
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the reported vehicles do not comply with the federal motor vehicle safety standard and could increase the chance of a crash if drivers do not know how fast they are traveling.
Tesla has issued ten recall campaigns this year, covering 2.1 million vehicles, NHTSA said, which is the second-highest number of vehicles recalled in 2022 behind Ford Motor Co (NYSE: F).
