Amazon workers at Staten Island reject forming union

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) employees at a warehouse in Staten Island rejected forming a union on Monday, providing relief to the e-commerce giant.
Of the total votes, 380 were in favor of the union while 618 opposed forming a union and two ballots were voided. The results will now be formally certified by the National Labor Relations Board.
In early April, employees at an Amazon warehouse at a Staten Island facility known as JFK8 voted to join the company’s first union.
The Amazon Labor Union asked for at least $30 an hour for the warehouse workers. The union also demanded longer breaks and improved benefits.
Amazon argued that the average hourly starting pay at U.S. fulfillment centers is $18 an hour.
Amazon had been trying to convince workers to opt against forming a union by making them attend mandatory meetings where employees were required to go through anti-union presentations.
