Kirby also rebutted a New York Times claim that US intelligence was assisting Ukraine in targetting top Russian generals

‘We did not provide Ukraine with specific targeting information for the Moskva,’ Pentagon spokesperson said

The US Defense Department on Thursday denied an NBC News report saying that the US assisted Kyiv in sinking Russia's flagship, the Moskva.

"We did not provide Ukraine with specific targeting information for the Moskva. We were not involved in the Ukrainians’ decision to strike the ship or in the operation they carried out,” said John Kirby in a press briefing

“We had no prior knowledge of Ukraine’s intent to target the ship. The Ukrainians have their intelligence capabilities to track and target Russian naval vessels, as they did in this case,” Kirby said.

Ukraine launched an anti-ship missile strike against the black sea fleet, sinking it. According to Russia, the ship was brought down by onboard ordnance exploding.

Kirby also rebutted a New York Times claim that US intelligence was assisting Ukraine in targetting top Russian generals.

"We do not provide intelligence on the location of senior military leaders on the battlefield," he said.
