US consumer inflation rose to an annual rate of 8.3% in April, slightly lower than the previous months as energy prices eased off.
The Labor Department said on Wednesday that the consumer price index rose 0.3% last month, the smallest gain since last August.
Inflation was lower than 8.5% as reported in March, but higher than the Dow Jones estimate for an 8.1% gain.
The core CPI rose to 6.2%, against expectations for a 6% gain, but down from March’s 6.5% rise.
