• Google could be fined between 6-18 million rubles
Russian communications regulator Roskomnadzor said on Friday it opened a new case against Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google for not storing country’s users personal data on Russian territory.
The regulator said it has also opened cases against six other foreign technology companies for similar violations. The companies include Airbnb Inc (NASDAQ: ABNB), Pinterest Inc (NYSE: PINS), Likeme, Twitch, Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) and United Parcel Service (NYSE: UPS).
Last year, Russia fined Google 3 million rubles, or $46,540, for failing to store Russian users’ data in databases in the country.
The Russian regulator opened the new case because of the tech company’s repeated failure to comply with its directions and said Google could be fined between 6-18 million rubles.
The other companies could be fined around 1-6 million rubles.
