• Ticker change will be in effect from June 9
• 'FB' ticker has been in use since its IPO in 2012
Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ: FB) on Tuesday said its Class A common stock would begin trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol 'META' before the market opens on June 9, which would replace its current ticker symbol 'FB'.
The social media giant changed its name from Facebook Inc to Meta Platform Inc in October last year, which oversees all of its products, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus.
The rebranding changes the focus of the company from a social media platform to building the "metaverse," a shared virtual environment that Meta bets will be the successor to the mobile internet.
The current ticker 'FB' has been in use since the company listed itself on Nasdaq in 2012 through an initial public offering.
