Amazon Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) will no longer be supplying retailers in China with its Kindle e-readers from Thursday.
The company intends to shut its Kindle e-book store in China, next year. The pullback is the latest move by a U.S. tech firm in response to the restrictive Chinese market.
The company affirmed that the closure of Kindle’s China business was not due to government pressure or censorship, and added that logistics, ads, and devices, in China, would not be affected.
Chinese users will be able to download previously purchased e-books until June 30, 2024, and continue to read them after that, Amazon said.
