• Starbucks considering external candidates for its next CEO
• Interim CEO said he asked company veterans to make room for fresh blood
Starbucks Corp (NASDAQ: SBUX) on Monday said Howard Schultz would remain as the interim chief executive officer of the coffee chain until the end of March 2023 as the company is looking for a permanent successor.
In April, Schultz returned to lead Starbucks for the third time and took over the helm from Kevin Johnson at a crucial time as the company is dealing with the rising unionization of its US workforce.
Starbucks is considering external candidates for its next CEO, Schultz told the Wall Street Journal during an interview the news outlet reported earlier in the day.
The coffee giant requires to add fresh talent and skills to its senior leadership ranks, the report said, citing Schultz.
Starbucks on Monday reiterated its plans to identify a successor by fall and said Schultz would remain on the board after he steps down as CEO.
