Reuters first reported that heavy lobbying from airlines and the travel industry prompted the Biden administration to drop international air testing requirements effective Sunday at 12:01 AM.
The CDC will do a reassessment of this decision in 90 days, stated the report.
Airlines and other travel industry members have repeatedly pushed the administration for months to drop the requirement, arguing it was hurting international travel demand. The travel industry has been one of the hardest hit by the pandemic.
White House officials met last month with travel industry officials, who pressed the Biden administration to end its requirements that vaccinated international travelers take a coronavirus test before flying to the United States.
