• The expert committee unanimously voted to recommend the two-dose Covid-19 vaccine
The US Food and Drug Administration’s committee of independent vaccine experts on Tuesday voted to recommend authorization of Moderna Inc’s (NASDAQ: MRNA) Covid-19 vaccine for kids ages 6 through 17.
The expert committee unanimously voted to recommend the two-dose Covid-19 vaccine after evaluating the safety and effectiveness of it for kids.
After the committee’s recommendation, the FDA is expected to authorize the vaccine this week. Before Moderna’s shot could be available in the market for the kids, the vaccine will also need authorization from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Covid-19 vaccines of both Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE) and BioNTech SE (NASDAQ: BNTX) are eligible for vaccination of children above the age of 5.
Though, only about 30% of kids ages 5 to 11 and 60% of teens 12 to 17 are fully vaccinated as of early June.
