President Joe Biden during an address in Philadelphia said temporary silos would be built along the border with Ukraine to assist export more grain and meet a rising global food shortage.
“I’m working closely with our European partners to get 20 million tons of grain locked in Ukraine out onto the market to help bring down food prices,” Biden said in a statement. “The grain can’t get out through the Black Sea because it’ll get blown out of the water.”
Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine and Russia have planted maritime mines due to which foreign ships carrying grain supplies are stranded at Ukrainian ports.
“So we’re going to build silos — temporary silos — in the borders of Ukraine, including in Poland, so we can transfer it from those cars into those silos, into cars in Europe, and get it out to the ocean, and get it across the world,” US president said adding that it will take time.
