GM to invest $81 million to build electric car Cadillac Celestiq

General Motors (NYSE: GM) said on Wednesday it will invest more than $81 million into the company’s global technical center in Detroit to prepare the campus to build the electric car Cadillac Celestiq

The investment will be used to purchase and install related equipment to hand-build the car

General Motors (NYSE: GM) said on Wednesday it will invest more than $81 million into the company’s global technical center in Detroit to prepare the campus to build the electric car Cadillac Celestiq.

The automaker said the investment will be used to purchase and install related equipment to hand-build the Celestiq and campus renovation work has already begun.

“As Cadillac’s future flagship sedan, CELESTIQ signifies a new, resurgent era for the brand,” said GM President Mark Reuss.

GM is scheduled to officially unveil the car next month.

The automaker said the Cadillac Celestiq will be built on GM’s Ultium Platform, the company’s EV strategy, which encompasses a common electric vehicle architecture and propulsion components.
