Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesperson told NBC News that Moscow would not guarantee that two American soldiers captured in Ukraine would not face the death sentence.
Two Americans Alexander Drueke, 39, and Andy Huynh, 27, are presently being held in the Russian-backed Ukrainian province of Donetsk.
Peskov said that Drueke and Huynh were "engaged in criminal operations" in Ukraine, including shooting Russian forces.
“Those guys on the battlefield were firing at our military guys. They were endangering their lives,” he said, NBC reported.
“There will be a court, and there will be a court decision,” Peskov said.
