Leonardo Del Vecchio, the Italian billionaire who built an eyewear empire that owns Ray-Ban, has died at the age of 87.
Del Vecchio was the chairman of the eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica SA, which has a market value of around 65 billion euros.
“The company expresses its deepest condolences to the Family and to the global employee community for this enormous loss,” the company said.
The company added that its board of directors would meet to determine next steps.
Del Vecchio was a business tycoon who rose from poverty to build his eyewear empire.
