• CAPSTONE is the first launch under NASA’s Artemis lunar program
Rocket Lab USA Inc (NASDAQ: RKLB) said on Tuesday it launched a spacecraft to the moon from its New Zealand facility.
Rocket Lab’s rocket, Electron is carrying a 55-pound, microwave oven-sized spacecraft called CAPSTONE.
“Perfect Electron launch!” Rocket Lab CEO Peter Beck tweeted Tuesday.
CAPSTONE is an acronym for Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment. CAPSTONE is the first launch under NASA’s Artemis lunar program.
“CAPSTONE is one of the first steps to learn how to operate more robust missions in this unique orbit, thus laying the groundwork for future exploration of our solar system,” the company said.
