Gas flows via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline from Russia to Germany plummeted to 20% of capacity on Wednesday.
Gas grid operator Gascade said that 1.28 million cubic meters per hour, or nearly 20% of Nord Stream's maximum capacity, have been transferred via Nord Stream 1, Reuters reported.
The supply cut came into effect just two days after Gazprom, said it would cut supplies via the route because another turbine had to be pulled out of service for repair.
Germany's Economics Minister, Robert Habeck on Tuesday warned that the country is facing a serious energy crisis as Russia prepares to cut gas exports to Europe.
“We have a serious situation. It is time for everyone to understand that,” Habeck told the ARD broadcaster Monday evening, adding that the minister appealed for gas consumption to be reduced. “The measures must be consistently implemented,” he said.
Meanwhile, EU nations agreed on Tuesday to reduce their respective gas use by 15% from August to March.
