US imposes sanctions on Russian leaders and oligarchs
- US slaps visa restrictions on 893 Russian Federation officials and 31 foreign government officials
The US and its allies are to impose additional heavy penalties on President Putin and his accomplices for Russia's inhumane war on Ukraine.
New sanctions on Russian oligarchs and state-owned enterprises were announced by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Visa restrictions apply to 893 Russian Federation officials, including Federation Council members and members of Russia's military and on 31 foreign government officials.
The following Russian oligarchs have faced sanctions, according to the State Department:
- Alexander Ponomarenko "for operating or having operated in the aerospace sector of the Russian economy.
- Dmitry Pumpyanskiy "for operating or having operated in the financial services sector of the Russian Federation economy."
- Andrey Melnichenko "for operating or having operated in the financial services sector of the Russian Federation economy."
"We are also imposing additional costs on Russia's war machine by designating 24 Russian defense and technology-related entities," Blinken write in a statement.
