Apple has laid off about 100 contract-based recruiters in the past week in an effort to slow hiring and spending, according to Bloomberg.
The report mentioned that the recruiting staff were told the layoffs reflect changes to Apple’s business needs. When they were laid off, employee badges were disabled and workers were told they would need to email a list of their belongings if they wanted those items to be returned.
An earlier report had stated that the company was slowing the hiring process after years of staffing up, joining many tech companies in the move.
Apple is still retaining recruiters who are full-time employees, and not all of its contractors were fired as part of the move. The terminated contractors will receive benefits and pay for two more weeks, Bloomberg said.
