Nearly 11 million people crossed border from Ukraine since Russian invasion: UN
- Around 6.42 million individual refugees from Ukraine were recorded across Europe
The United Nations Refugee Agency said nearly 11 million people have crossed the border from Ukraine since Russia's invasion in late February.
According to the agency's website, 10.887 million people have crossed since February 24.
“The escalation of conflict in Ukraine has caused civilian casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure, forcing people to flee their homes seeking safety, protection, and assistance,” UN researchers said in a report.
“Millions of refugees from Ukraine have crossed borders into neighboring countries and many more have been forced to move inside the country,” the report said.
More than 6.42 million individual refugees from Ukraine were recorded across Europe and around 3.84 million refugees from Ukraine are registered for temporary protection or similar national protection schemes in Europe
These number indicates cross-border travel (and not individuals). Between the 18th and 23rd of February, an additional 105,000 individuals fled to the Russian Federation from the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces.
