Aearo Technologies LLC parent 3M Co (NYSE: MMM) requested a bankruptcy judge to extend a litigation stay to the parent company to resolve mass earplug lawsuits.

Aearo Technologies lawyer Chad Husnick said before Judge Jeffrey Graham of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Indianapolis that 3M should also be protected from lawsuits alleging its military earplugs were defective, even though the company did not file for bankruptcy.

The lawyer claimed that the protection mass lawsuits would continue against 3M, resulting in complicating earplug unit Aearo’s restructuring.
