An infusion of federal pandemic relief to America's schools sparked a boom in the education technology sector, an industry where research and evidence are scarce

Federal pandemic relief spending to schools seems to have helped boost the business of tech companies. Many tech companies contacted education authorities seeking their permission for schools to try out their software. The offer was that as the schools were directly getting Federal funds, the districts would not be spending anything.

The result was that many tech companies benefit but an inquiry has not been made into whether the schools themselves for which the Federal funds were intended ultimately benefited.

An Associated Press analysis found many schools spent millions in pandemic money on software and services, including licenses for apps, games and tutoring websites. The schools, however, have no evidence the programs helped students. Fact is some new software was rarely used.

The Associated Press adds: The full scope of spending is unknown because the aid came with few reporting requirements. Congress gave schools a record $190 billion but didn’t require them to publicly report individual purchases.
