Nikki Haley has long tried to set herself apart from her Republican presidential rivals on foreign policy

Nikki Haley's consistent stand on the Middle East while she served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations could help her Republican presidential campaign gain a shade of traction following the outbreak of hostilities between Hamas and Israel.  

Haley's campaign speeches have stood out from those of her rivals as they are peppered with anecdotes of her term in the UN and how she was dealing with the threats from Russia and China, an AP report says.

The war that Hamas provoked by its attack on Israel's Ashkelon city killing hundreds of citizens has put the primary race in Haley's wheelhouse.
