A handcuffed Black man sitting in the backseat of a patrol vehicle escaped injury after a Florida sheriff’s deputy mistook the sound of an acorn hitting his vehicle for a gunshot and fired multiple times at the SUV on Nov. 12, 2023. The officer who initiated the shooting resigned. (Feb. 16)
