Job openings rates surged in six states in January and declined in one, according to the latest report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The report also indicated increases in hires rates in three states and decreases in two. Meanwhile, total separations rates saw a rise in three states and a decrease in two. Nationally, there was minimal change across job openings, hires, and total separations rates.

In January, job openings rates witnessed significant shifts across states. Notably, increases were observed in six states, with Oregon, Maryland, and Missouri leading the surge. Conversely, Colorado experienced a decline in job openings rates.

The number of job openings also displayed a varied pattern across states. New York, Maryland, and Oregon recorded notable increases, while Texas, Colorado, and Michigan faced declines.

Hires Rates Fluctuate

Hires rates fluctuated in January across states, with increases noted in Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Iowa, and decreases seen in Florida and Texas. However, at the national level, the hires rate remained relatively stable.

Similarly, the number of hires exhibited diverse trends across states. Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Oregon reported notable increases, whereas Florida, Texas, and Arkansas saw declines.

Total Separations Change in States

Total separations rates experienced changes in several states, with increases observed in Oregon, Colorado, and Iowa. However, Alaska and Tennessee saw declines in total separations rates.

In terms of numbers, Colorado, Oregon, and Iowa witnessed notable increases in total separations, while Tennessee and Alaska recorded decreases.

Quits Trends Remain Mixed

Quits rates showed mixed movements in January across states. While decreases were seen in North Dakota, Georgia, and Minnesota, increases were noted in Colorado and Oregon.

The number of quits also varied, with Georgia, Tennessee, and Minnesota experiencing declines, and Colorado and Oregon witnessing increases.

Layoffs and Discharges Change

Layoffs and discharges rates exhibited changes across states, with decreases noted in Alaska, Indiana, and California, and an increase observed in New Jersey. However, the national rate remained unchanged.
