Pope Francis on Sunday said Sunday he hoped the annual climate summit known as COP29, which starts Monday in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku, would contribute effectively to environmental protection. Diplomats from across the world will descend on the small petrostate in the South Caucasus to discuss how to avoid increasing threats from climate change in a place that was one of the birthplaces of the modern oil industry.
