Mr. Silverman was raised in a family actively involved in local politics. His father was a general practice lawyer who wanted to see his son become a lawyer as well. However, before entering law, Mr. Silverman, followed his interest in science and worked as an engineer from 1963 to 1971.

Mr. Silverman started his career at Western Electric, designing and implementing systems for automating manufacturing processes and forecasting future requirements for space and personnel. His career includes work experience at the American Stock Exchange, where he was the assistant director of operations planning. During his years as an engineer, Mr. Silverman developed expertise in economics, network engineering and innovation, which have helped him become the distinguished attorney he is today.

A Transition to the Field of Law

As Mr. Silverman became more politically involved, he noticed that many individuals in politics were lawyers, which led to his decision to forgo a doctorate in operations research. Instead, he transitioned to law, earning a Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 1970 and graduating first in the Evening Division. Accepted to the New York Bar in 1971, his legal career began as an associate at Huber, Magill, Lawrence & Farrell. Mr. Silverman worked at this firm for five years, practicing before the New York State Public Service Commission and the Federal Power Commission.

After Mr. Silverman's time at Huber, Magill, Lawrence & Farrell, he joined AT&T in 1975 to work on various antitrust cases pending against the company, including U.S. v. AT&T. Mr. Silverman retired from AT&T as a senior attorney in 1990 to open his practice.

Since establishing the Law Offices of A. Jared Silverman in 1997, Mr. Silverman uses his expertise in entrepreneurial law to advise tech start-ups and for international transactions. Mr. Silverman assists startup businesses with various issues, such as advice on business and legal aspects of starting, entering the market and expanding internationally. He also guides clients on financial transactions, serving as an escrow agent and paymaster. A keen innovator, he has leveraged his expertise in operations research, systems engineering, economics and innovation from his years in engineering to develop a distinct legal practice.

Academic and Professional Achievements

Mr. Silverman's academic and professional achievements are extensive. Prior to attending New York Law School, he earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from the Columbia School of Engineering and Applied Science in 1963 and a Master of Science in operations research from the same institution in 1965. After receiving a Juris Doctor from New York Law School, Mr. Silverman attended New York University School of Law for International Legal Studies, graduating in 1975 with a Master of Law.

Beyond his academic achievement, Mr. Silverman's most significant achievement is his work at the Bureau of Securities in New Jersey, where, in 1991, he was asked to serve as chief of the New Jersey Bureau of Securities for five years. His work was particularly significant, as he focused on creating consumer warnings for the Internet, becoming the first to recognize the impact of the internet on security fraud and founding the Internet Committee of the North American Securities Administrators Association.

Looking to the Future

Today, Mr. Silverman lives in New York with his life partner, Carol Cohen. He has two children, Matthew Silverman and Helen Silverman Overstreet, and a grandson, Eli Overstreet.

Mr. Silverman hopes to continue practicing law for the next five to 10 years. He enjoys working at his practice and advises others to pursue their interests, even if it will not lead to as much financial success as it will likely bring more long-term happiness.
