Colorado-based companies collaborate to preserve and protect world-renowned landmark
DENVER, March 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Kärcher North America, a global leader in cleaning technology, has partnered with Aramark Facilities Management for a large-scale Cultural Sponsorship Cleaning initiative at the world-famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Taking place from March 17 to March 21, this collaborative effort underscores both organizations' commitment to sustainability, preservation, and innovation.
The project is part of Kärcher's 90th-anniversary celebration, which includes 90 global Cultural Sponsorship Cleaning initiatives. A media opportunity to witness the cleaning in action will be available on March 20 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Preserving a Historic and Record-Breaking Venue
Red Rocks Amphitheatre, a National Historic Landmark, continues to make history. In 2024, Billboard named Red Rocks the most-attended amphitheatre in the world, with approximately 1.6 million ticketed patrons attending concerts by Oct. 1, according to Denver Arts & Venues. Red Rocks, which self-reported nearly 1.7 million visitors by the end of the season, boasts a seating capacity of over 9,000 and remains a beloved cultural and musical destination.
Kärcher's expert cleaning team will use specialized techniques to gently remove dirt and debris from the sandstone and concrete surfaces of the amphitheatre, ensuring the highest preservation standards are met. Using gentle steam cleaning methods, they will access hard-to-reach areas by rappelling from the tower structures which surround the amphitheatre.
A Legacy of Monumental Preservation
For 45 years, Kärcher has provided their cleaning expertise to the preservation of historical landmarks and has contributed to more than 200 cleaning projects worldwide, which are publicly owned, free of charge. Previous high-profile projects include:
- Mount Rushmore (USA)
- The Space Needle (USA)
- The London Eye (UK)
- Christ the Redeemer (Brazil)
- Obelisk of Luxor (Paris)
In every case, Kärcher, an equipment manufacturer, works closely with monument owners, conservationists, restorers, and historians to ensure its eco-friendly steam cleaning process is both effective and safe for delicate surfaces.
"With nearly 2 million visitors and over 200 events a year occurring at the venue, the upkeep and preservation of Red Rocks is always top of mind," said Tad Bowman, venue director of Red Rocks Amphitheatre. "Working with Aramark, we're pleased to have Kärcher's experience and expertise on hand for this spring-cleaning initiative."
It is a collaboration designed to preserve and protect the historical landmark.
"Red Rocks Amphitheatre is more than just a venue; it's a cultural and natural treasure," said Elliot Younessian, CEO of Kärcher North America. "We are honored to contribute to its preservation and to support our local community through this initiative. Our commitment to sustainability and responsible cleaning aligns with the values that make Red Rocks such a special place."
Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a National Historic Landmark; Kärcher and Aramark understand the meaning of this large-scale preservation initiative.
According to John Deffenbaugh, president and CEO of Historic Denver, "Red Rock's Amphitheatre and Park is one of only two National Historic Landmarks in the Denver metro area and also one of the most loved and popular performance venues in the world." Deffenbaugh continues, "Kärcher's advanced cleaning technology is capable of removing the dirt and grime that inevitably builds up over time in an intensely used space without damaging historic fabric; Historic Denver is excited to see this technology in action at Red Rocks."
