SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 18, 2025--
Azul, the only company 100% focused on Java, today announced record-breaking momentum for its recently completed fiscal year, with new customer bookings growing 63% year-over-year. This growth reflects increasing enterprise demand for both high-performance Java platforms and cost-effective commercially supported Java solutions as organizations seek to rein in cloud expenses and migrate away from Oracle’s pricing and licensing structures. Additional highlights from Azul’s performance include continued product advancements, global expansion and significant channel growth.
High-Performance Java Platform and Cost-Effective Java Solutions Drive Record Growth
A key industry trend that contributed to Azul’s unprecedented growth is a preference for open source as organizations continue to look for alternatives to Oracle Java. In Azul’s recent 2025 State of Java Survey & Report, 88% of more than 2,000 Java professionals surveyed are considering, or are already in the process of, leaving Oracle Java and the top reasons cited were cost, a preference for open source and Oracle’s sales tactics.
Additional market drivers fueling Azul’s growth includes the massive uptake in cloud adoption which has led to cloud performance and cost optimization being front of mind for C-level and board-level executives, and an increasing focus in the enterprise on DevOps productivity.
Azul’s Platform Prime and Platform Core solutions address all of these market trends, providing exceptional value and earning the trust of businesses looking to modernize their Java estates while optimizing performance and reducing costs.
Java Product and Technology Innovation
Azul built on its strong track record of Java innovation this past year with new product releases and features designed to deliver exceptional performance, security, and value to customers. Innovations introduced include:
- In April 2024, Azul announced that its cloud analytics solution, Intelligence Cloud, now supports Oracle JDK and any OpenJDK-based JVM from any vendor or distribution. “Using the information already inside JVMs running in production, Intelligence Cloud provides unprecedented precision and the intelligence needed to solve two significant DevOps challenges – alert fatigue from an intractable vulnerability false positive backlog and technical debt from maintaining unused code.”
- Announced in August 2024, Azul shared that Newcastle City Council implemented Platform Core to address its critical security vulnerabilities in its Java-based applications, eliminating 80% of the organization’s IT security vulnerabilities overall.
- In October 2024, the company announced that its high-performance Java platform, Azul Platform Prime, outperforms other OpenJDK distributions by an average of 37%. Azul also introduced its new Java Performance Engineering Lab.
- The company recently announced that its comprehensive Java solutions support financial institutions in meeting DORA compliance requirements.
Azul also earned 13 industry awards throughout the year, recognizing its cutting-edge technology and product portfolio solutions. Highlights include:
In addition to these wins, Azul launched its inaugural Java Hero Awards, recognizing 17 customer organizations, teams and individual champions globally who achieved innovative world-class results with Java to help their businesses become more cost-effective, successful and efficient.
Territory and Channel Growth
Azul’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) regions both experienced phenomenal growth in the past year, with EMEA growing 111% in new customer bookings YoY and APAC realizing an 80% increase. The company also expanded its channel program, adding 15 new strategic partners including key distributors in Australia, the Middle East, South Africa and India. It also expanded its own presence in Paris to oversee partnerships in France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain. New customers doing business through Azul’s channel partners increased by 79% YoY. This channel partner growth was due in large part to demand for licensing and pricing expertise aligned to IT Asset Management (ITAM) services and specific migration advisory engagement as customers seek alternatives to Oracle Java.
This past year, Azul also began offering Platform Core and Platform Prime on the AWS and Google Cloud Marketplaces, enabling customers to leverage their committed cloud spend, consolidate software procurement and simplify the purchasing process for Azul products.
“Rising cloud infrastructure costs and enterprise migrations away from Oracle Java fueled our momentum this past year as organizations prioritize cost-efficient, scalable and secure Java solutions,” said Scott Sellers, co-founder and CEO at Azul. “We are deeply committed to our customers’ success, providing best-in-class solutions for Java estates in an increasingly complex IT landscape.”
