Overview
H. Michael Krimbill is the CEO of NGL Energy Partners LP .
H. Michael “Mike” Krimbill was inducted into the The University of Tulsa’s Business Hall of Fame in 2013 as the year’s Outstanding Entrepreneur. Krimbill was a wise choice for the Business Hall of Fame, which is comprised of a select group of individuals whose careers illustrate both individual excellence and dedication to the success of others. Inductees are chosen based on their lasting contributions to their industries and communities, and they provide inspiring role models for today’s business students.
Mike Krimbill certainly meets all of these qualifications. A veteran of the propane industry, he is now the CEO of NGL Energy Partners LP (NGL), based in Tulsa. He began his career in 1990 as chief financial officer of Heritage Propane, a retail propane startup founded by James Bertelsmeyer. Together, they helped expand Heritage, taking it public in 1996 as MLP Heritage Propane Partners LP.
Later, Heritage merged with a midstream pipeline company to become Energy Transfer Partners LP (ETP). The company expanded to the natural gas transportation business and became the largest intrastate natural gas pipeline business in the United States. By taking ETP and its associated Energy Transfer Equity public in 2006, Krimbill helped the two companies expand to become multibillion-dollar ventures with more than 5,000 employees.
In 2010, Krimbill joined NGL, a master limited partnership based in Tulsa. NGL has 2,200 employees and operates four midstream energy businesses – water treatment, crude oil logistics, natural gas liquids logistics, and retail propane. The company has grown tenfold since its initial public offering (IPO) in 2011.
Mr. Krimbill served as a board member of Williams’ Partners LP, and on the board of directors of Pacific Commerce Bank in California. He also is owner/developer of The Vineyard, a 20-acre development of restaurant, retail and entertainment concepts in Tulsa.
Mr. Krimbill graduated from Michigan State University, but he has strong ties to The University of Tulsa. Three of his children are TU alumni: Michael received his BSBA in Management Information Systems in 2004; Tanya received her BA in Elementary Education in 2012, and Travis received his BSBA in Finance in 2016.
Mr. Krimbill wished to strengthen the study of finance at TU, and in 2006, he established The H. Michael Krimbill Fellowship Endowment in Finance. In 2018, Mr. Krimbill amended his fellowship program, allowing the earnings from the endowment to also fund faculty research in the School of Finance, Operations Management and International Business, should the faculty fellowship be vacant in any given year.
