Townes-Whitley is the CEO of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a technology company based in Reston, Virginia. SAIC specializes in providing engineering, digital, and artificial intelligence solutions primarily for government agencies, including national defense and space entities such as the United States Army, Navy, and Space Force, as well as various branches of the federal government.

Before becoming CEO at SAIC, Townes-Whitley was the president of U.S. regulated industries at Microsoft. During her time at Microsoft, she led initiatives focused on corporate responsibility. Her goal was to reduce the company's carbon footprint and establish an ethics framework for artificial intelligence. She also worked to promote gender diversity and support women seeking corporate board roles within the company. One of her notable contributions during this time includes successfully securing a $10 billion cloud-computing contract with the Pentagon in late 2019.Before joining Microsoft, she briefly served as president of CGI Federal, a government IT consulting firm.

Early Life

Townes-Whitley was born in Fort Moore, Georgia. Her father, a retired three star Army General, worked as comptroller.

Townes-Whitley earned her bachelor’s degree in public policy and economics from Princeton University. She continues to serve as Director and Trustee for organizations including, Nasdaq, Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Princeton University Faith and Work Initiative and Partnership for Public Service.

Toni helped to launch new initiatives at Microsoft, building the ethics framework for Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies, creating a Microsoft Federal subsidiary model, establishing the Microsoft Executive women’s network, sponsoring Blacks & Africans at Microsoft (BAM), and partnering with the Athena Alliance, an organization that prepares tech women for corporate board roles, and creating a cultural and operating shift to applied innovation customized by industry.

Townes-Whitley was recognized for her leadership and transforming the major government contractor, SAIC. 

Under her leadership, SAIC won significant awards, including a $232 million contract with the U.S. Army. 

She shared her plan to grow the company at a recent meeting with analysts and shareholders.
