Mariupol humanitarian crisis worsens due to heavy fighting and Russian airstrikes

British military intelligence said on Wednesday that heavy combat and Russian airstrikes continue in the surrounded Ukrainian city of Mariupol.
The humanitarian situation in the besieged city of Mariupol is deteriorating, according to the British defense ministry.

“Most of the 160,000 remaining residents have no light, communication, medicine, heat or water,” the MoD said in its intelligence report.
“Russian forces have prevented humanitarian access, likely to pressure defenders to surrender,” it said.
People have been able to evacuate beleaguered Mariupol only by private car or on foot, Ukraine officials said, since larger evacuation operations have failed due to heavy bombardments.
