The US sanctioned Putin’s two daughters, Katerina Tikhonova and Mariya Putina, along with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's wife and daughter, and senior members of Russia's security council.

The sanctions also targeted largest banks of Russia including Sberbank, which holds one-third of the country’s banking assets, and country’s fourth largest financial institute, Alfabank. Energy purchases, though, will be exempted from the sanctions

The United States on Wednesday announced a slew of sanctions against Russia targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s daughters and banning Americans from investing in the country.
