The 20 Bushmaster vehicles have departed Australia for Ukraine, after President Zelenskyy requested the Australian-made four-wheel-combat vehicles during his address to the Australian Parliament on 31 March 2022.
The Bushmaster was designed in Australia to offer secure mobility transport, allowing soldiers to safely get to a fighting location before dismounting for close combat.
A Boeing C-17 Globemaster transport plane capable of carrying four Bushmasters left Brisbane, Australia's east coast city, for Europe on Friday, according to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
“The Bushmaster is well suited to provide protection to the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers and Ukrainian civilians against mines and improvised explosive devices, shrapnel from artillery and small arms fire,” Prime Minister Morrison said in a statement.
These 20 Bushmasters cost 50 million Australian dollars or 37 million in US dollars.
“The 20 vehicles are painted olive green to suit the operating environment,” Morrison said.
Additionally, the Ukrainian flag is also painted on each side, with the words "United with Ukraine" stenciled in English and Ukrainian to show Australia’s dedication and support for Ukraine's government and people.
“The Bushmaster will be fitted with radios, a global positioning system, and additional bolt-on armor increasing their protection,” Australia’s Prime Minister said.
Apart from Bushmasters, two ambulance variants will be sent to Ukraine which will have will have “the traditional Red Cross emblem.”
