US President Joe Biden pledged on Thursday another $800 million to help Ukraine as Russia intensifies attacks in the east of the Donbas region.
US will provide heavy artillery, dozens of howitzers, and 144,000 rounds of ammunition, as well as tactical drones to Ukraine, said Biden.
Biden also said that he plans to ask Congress for more funding next week.
He said that the US and its allies “are moving as fast as possible” to continue to provide Ukraine the weapons they need to defend their nation.
Biden announced additional $500 million in direct economic assistance to Ukraine as the country faces financial challenges due to the ongoing war.
"This is money the government can help use to stabilize their economy, to support communities that have been devastated by the Russian onslaught, and pay the brave workers that continue to provide essential services to the people of Ukraine," Biden said.
Biden said that most of the remaining funds will be exhausted with the announcement of the latest funding to Ukraine.
“With this latest disbursement, I’ve almost exhausted the draw-down authority I have that Congress authorized for Ukraine and a bipartisan spending bill last month,” Biden said.
