• Agarwal expressed concerns about Twitter's future after it will be taken private
Twitter Inc (NYSE: TWTR) Chief Executive Parag Agrawal on Monday told employees that the future of the social media company is uncertain.
Agarwal’s comments came from a town hall meeting that was heard by Reuters after the California-based company accepts Elon Musk’s takeover deal.
“Once the deal closes, we don’t know which direction the platform will go,” Twitter’s CEO said, as the takeover will delist the micro-blogging platform from the US stock exchange and turn it into a private company.
Musk will join Twitter staff for a question-and-answer session at a later date, the report said.
In a recent interview at a TED conference, the billionaire described himself as a “free speech absolutist” and said that he sees Twitter as the “de facto town square.”
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Musk said.
He has proposed changes for the platform, including softening its stance on content moderation, creating an edit feature for tweets, making Twitter’s algorithm open source, allowing people outside the company to view it and suggest changes, and relying less on advertising, among other ideas.
