The British Defense said in an intelligence report that more than a quarter of Russia's invading force “have now been rendered combat ineffective” since the start of the war.
“At the start of the conflict, Russia committed over 120 battalion tactical groups, approximately 65 percent of its entire ground combat strength,” MoD said in its daily report.
The VDV Airborne Units, who are among Russia's most elite troops, have suffered the worst levels of attrition, according to the ministry, and rebuilding these forces will most certainly take years.
Earlier Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “We have significant losses of troops, and it’s a huge tragedy for us.”
Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations assisted in the evacuation of over 100 civilians from the Azovstal metallurgical complex in Mariupol on Sunday.
