A senior Ukrainian official said on Friday that a new attempt to rescue people trapped with Ukrainian fighters at the Azovstal steel complex in Mariupol's southern city is under way.
Reuter reported that the Chief of the Presidential Staff, Andriy Yermak, said, “The next stage of rescuing our people from Azovstal is underway at the moment. Information about the results will be provided later."
Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday that another 344 people have been evacuated from Mariupol's city and suburbs and are on their way to Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the Security Council that a third operation to evacuate people from Mariupol and Azovstal was underway.
