Elon Musk on Friday denied claims that former President Donald Trump encouraged him to buy social media platform Twitter Inc (NYSE: TWTR).
Trump Media & Technology Group CEO Devin Nunes had said Trump told Musk “to go and buy it (Twitter).”
Musk denied Nunes’ statement on Twitter saying, “This is false. I’ve had no communication, directly or indirectly, with Trump, who has publicly stated that he will be exclusively on Truth Social.”
Nunes said on Wednesday during a televised appearance on Fox Business, “President Trump, basically before Elon Musk bought it, actually said to go and buy it because you know the goal of our company is really to build a community where people are in a family friendly, safe environment.”
Late last month, Musk had agreed to buy Twitter for $44 billion days after he revealed 9% stake in the social media platform.
Twitter had banned Trump in 2021 after being accused of inciting the Jan. 6, 2021, riot on Capitol Hill.
