Tesla recalls 130,000 EVs in US over malfunctioning center display due to CPU overheating

• Tesla said it recognized 59 warranty claims and 59 field reports received since January

• EV maker will provide an OTA software update to improve CPU temperature management

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) is recalling nearly 130,000 electric cars in the United States over an overheating issue that may cause the center screen to malfunction.

The recall covers Tesla Model S and Model X manufactured in 2021 and 2022 and Model 3 and Model Y from 2022.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Tuesday said the infotainment system's CPU overheating during the preparation or process of fast-charging could prevent the center screen from displaying images from the rearview camera, warning lights and other information.

Tesla told NHTSA that it was aware of 59 warranty claims and 59 field reports received since January that may be related to the issue but no reports of crashes or injuries related to the case.

The electric carmaker will provide an over-the-air (OTA) software update to improve CPU temperature management and resolve the issue.

Tesla recalled more than 48,000 Model 3 Performance vehicles in April for a software issue that was not showing the speedometer when in "Track Mode".

This year, the EV giant has issued 11 recalls, tied with Chrysler parent Stellantis for fourth-most in 2022.
