The Ukrainian government has accused Russia of atrocities and violence against people during the invasion, claiming that over 10,000 suspected war crimes have been found.

Russia has denied targeting people or committing war crimes, accusing Kyiv of orchestrating the incidents.

In the northeastern town of Chupakhivka, Sgt. Vadim Shyshimarin is accused of shooting the 62-year-old man in the head through an open vehicle window. Under the provisions of the part of the Ukrainian criminal code dealing with the rules and customs of war, he might face life imprisonment.

Many of the alleged crimes were exposed last month as Moscow's soldiers abandoned their attempt to take Kyiv and retreated from the area around the city, uncovering mass graves in regions like Bucha and Borodyanka.
