• The company air shipped the infant formula from its facility in Ireland
Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT) said on Friday it has sent millions of cans of infant formula powder into the United States.
The company air shipped the infant formula from its facility in Ireland as the US suffers broad shortage of baby formula due to supply chain constraints which is affecting beneficiaries of Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition assistance program.
“In particular we’ve been focusing on production in our Cootehill, Ireland, facility to serve state Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) consumers,” Abbott said in a statement.
In February, the company had recalled some baby formulas after complaints about bacterial infections in infants who had consumed the products.
Abbott has been working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and WIC agencies.
“Abbott has been working with the USDA and WIC agencies and paying rebates on competitive products in states where Abbott holds the WIC contract, when Similac is not available,” the company said.
