Germany plans to cease importing Russian oil by the end of the year, even if the EU fails to agree on a ban in its next round of penalties, Bloomberg reported.
“Efforts to seal deals with alternative suppliers are progressing in the chancellery in Berlin and the government is confident it can solve remaining logistical problems within the next six to seven months, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity,” Bloomberg quoted.
Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, sparking a conflict. Russian soldiers are bombing and destroying critical infrastructure, unleashing missile and air strikes on Ukrainian cities and villages, torturing and killing people.
Earlier, The European Commission's president, Ursula von der Leyen has asked the bloc's 27 countries to restrict crude oil imports within six months and refined oil products by the end of the year. This came in the sixth round of sanctions on Russia.
"We will phase out Russian supply of crude oil within six months and refined products by the end of the year," Ursula von der Leyen told the European Parliament.
