The British defense in its intelligence report said in the coming weeks “Russia is likely to continue to rely heavily on massed artillery strikes as it attempts to regain momentum in its advance in the Donbas.”
Around 3,500 buildings were destroyed or damaged in the Chernihiv area north of Kyiv during Russia's abandoned advance into the Ukrainian capital. Residential buildings account for up to 80% of the damage the ministry's report said.
“The scale of this damage indicates Russia’s preparedness to use artillery against inhabited areas, with minimal regard to discrimination or proportionality, MoD said in a tweet.
The UK ministry said Russia is likely to rely more on “indiscriminate artillery bombardment”, because of its poor target collection capabilities and unwillingness to risk flying combat aircraft outside its frontlines.
