Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said on Tuesday that Ukraine is working on the next evacuation steps of fighters defending the Azovstal steel mill in Mariupol.
“God willing, everything will be fine,” Iryna Vereshchuk said in a Telegram post. She gave no further details.
On Monday, more than 50 wounded personnel were evacuated from Azovstal to a hospital in Novoazovsk, a Russian-controlled town. In contrast, more than 210 others were sent to Olenivka, a town held by Russian-backed separatists.
The steelworks served as the last line of defense for Ukrainian fighters against Russian occupiers in the southern port city.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said yesterday night, in response to the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the steel plant, that “Ukraine needs Ukrainian heroes alive. This is our principle. I think that every normal person will understand these words.”
